About Cleveland Cavaliers

Past Seasons

The 40th season for the Cleveland Cavaliers franchise is in many ways a pivotal one both in terms of the future of the franchise, and the future of its franchise player. With New York beckoning him, LeBron James is two short seasons away from bolting the only home he has ever had in the NBA. And the franchise knows it. After being surrounded by mediocre at best players for the past five seasons, the franchise knows it has one last shot at keeping the future of the NBA in Cleveland.

Enter one Shaq Daddy who has been busy making money and toning his body over the summer with his ABC Show Shaq Vs. “The Big Aristotle” will be bringing his “Black Tornado” (what he refers to his patented drop-step as) show to Quicken Loans Arena to help bring “The Chosen One” into his destiny as the face of the game. Whatever you do, don’t miss this epic season of basketball in Cleveland.

History

The Cleveland Cavaliers were founded in 1970 and played their first season in the NBA in that same year. The new franchise would struggle through the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s but came to life in the new millennium with the drafting of high school phenom LeBron James. Under the coaching tutelage of former Spur Paul Silas, the team grew but not without its growing pains. Finally in 2005, new owner Dan Gilbert fired Silas and hired Mike Brown, a former Assistant Coach of the World Champion San Antonio Spurs. Brown would bring a couple of coaches with him from San Antonio and took the team clinched their first playoff spot since the 1988 season.

It wasn’t until the 2006 season that the Cavs made it to the NBA Finals. Dubbed as the East Coast Spurs, the Cavaliers met the real Spurs in the finals and were quickly subdued in 4 games by the powerhouse Spurs. They again returned to the Eastern Conference finals in 2009 against Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic who defeated them 4 games to 2.

In the offseason, the franchise acquired 4-time NBA Champion Shaquille O’Neal in a trade that sent Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic, $500,000 in cash and the 46th pick in the 2010 draft to the Phoenix Suns. The franchise has won one on Conference Title (2007) and two Division Titles (1976, 2009).
